Last minute holiday gifts…for yourself, of course.

If your loved one still hasn’t figured out what to get you for Xmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/festivus, you could get super angry and call him/her all sorts of names, ranging from the clever “haphazard oaf” to the classic and always effective cheapskate.

But where will that get you?

Instead, realize that we are sometimes impossible to shop for, and with a delicate hand, guide him/her toward a list of options.

Now, as a woman whose ex-ex-ex (we’re talking a decade ago ex) once bought her a lime-green ribbed sweater from Contempo Casuals that was, maybe, a children’s size 6X, I do not recommend letting him pick out your clothing, unless your partner is like Kim’s and knows a mean pair of Frye’s when he sees them (scroll down to see the gorgeous shoes of which I speak).

Jewelry, on the other hand, is hard to screw up. Considering how this is a recession fashion website, I will only share diamond-free options. If you think amazing pieces can’t be had for less than $2k, I present to you…(drum roll)…Erie Basin

1940s Turquoise Ring -- $85

Erie Basin is a fabulous little shop in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Its owner, Russell Whitmore, carefully selects antique objects from the 19th and 20th centuries. While the options on its online shop are limited, and merchandise sells out very quickly, you can get lucky and find an amazing and unique item for less than $200.

1880s Paste Lyre Brooch -- $75

1880s Etruscan Revival Turquoise Coil Bracelet -- $175

1880s Fan Brooch -- $60

Love the severe sweetness of these “thorn” earrings..

Lee Hale Gold Rose Thorn Earrings -- $180

If you have any interest in these, HURRY because nothing lasts very long on this site.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the area, pop into the shop:

Erie Basin — 388 Van Brunt St., Red Hook, Brooklyn. (718) 554-6147. Hours of operation: (In December) Wed-Sat 12-7 p.m.; Sunday 12-6 p.m.; Closed Monday and Tuesday. Also open by appointment.
